About Gavin Cameron
Well what can one say about one's self without sounding like some random idiot that decided to knock up a web site?
... "Too Late!" I hear you cry! :-)
In Summary (just because I feel like doing it first)
Ok, I'll admit it straight up ... I'm a bit of a geek! Why else would I spend days, if not weeks writing not only the content of a web site, but writing my own custom software to drive it?
However, that said ... it looks way better than the last one!
My Day Job
I'm a principal electronic engineer working for Emblation, a microwave medical device manufacturer in Alloa. Before that, I spent 23 years working in Edinburgh for what's (at time of writing at least), called Leonardo. Some may know it as Ferranti / GEC Ferranti / GEC Marconi / GEC Marconi Avionics / Marconi Electronic systems / BAE Systems / SELEX SAS / SELEX Galileo / Selex ES / Finmeccanica - take your pick : it was GEC Ferranti when I started in 1992, and SELEX ES when I left at the end of 2015!
I even have a CV!
Hobbies
I like doing all sorts of things from playing badminton / going to the gym / going for a cycle to having a night on the town or even a day in front of the telly watching DVD trilogies. Typical trilogies are: Star Wars (episodes IV to VI, although I also have I to III), The Matrix, Indiana Jones, Alien (although I think that they should have stopped after Aliens) Back To The Future ... to name but a few.
I also like photography, skiing, climbing Munros (when my knees work) and finding new country roads in my car.
Obviously I also like designing web pages - well really more the writing of the software that goes on behind the scenes of the web sites. This entire site is powered from a single "index.php" for example :-)
It goes without saying that I'm a bit of a
gadget man and have numerous to
play with conduct scientific studies with (of course).
These include things like a USB missile launcher; Robosapien;
radio controlled helicopters & planes; computers.
A Bit Of Socialising
I have a real ale hand pull pump in my garage - strange, but true. So far it's had 9 gallon casks of Atlas Latitude / Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted / Harviestoun Schiehallion pumping through it at various "gatherings" :-) They are also chances to wheel my BBQ out of the garage and grill up a feast :-)
That's not to say that I exclusively drink real ale - I've even been to The Oktoberfest (in 2006) and sampled a few litres of Weißbier there!
Craziness
I've done a few crazy things like parachuting, bungee jumping, walking over the Sydney harbour bridge. I've been on a microlight flight and have considered lessons. It would be great to just fly off somewhere for the weekend! Still a few crazy things to tick off though :-)
I started SCUBA diving in April 2009 by becomming a PADI Open Water Diver (first rung on the ladder). A few dives on now and still lots to see!
Geekiness
