Multimedia System - Television
Server Side (now redundant)
The server runs MythTV which is an open source digital video recorder project. This is set up as a master back-end, meaning that I can add numerous other slave back-ends to the "mythTV" network if the need arises.
The server currently has a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-TD-500 Dual FreeView digital tuner attached which allows more channels than you think to be recorded or viewed on the network simultaneously.
Client Side (now redundant)
Any computer connected to the network running the mythTV front end can take control of the tuner(s) and display live TV, watch recorded programmes or schedule programmes for recording.
The latest version of Kodi that's installed on the Media PC has PVR capability built in and will talk to the MythTV back-end.
The Obvious
The house has been wired to have a TV socket (and FM / DAB ) in every [major] room. The rooms are all fed from a central combiner / amplifier / distribution box: Labgear HDU618S. This has inputs for TV / Satellite / FM / DAB / CCTV and can feed a primary room (where the satellite decoder is) plus eight other rooms with the satellite decoder output and all the other inputs.
So obviously ... television can be watched directly on an actual television set!
